British Full Sovereign Gold Coin (1877)


The gold sovereign is one of Britain’s most famous coins, the first of which was minted in 1489 by King Henry VII, due to its long history it is considered by many as the flagship coin of the Royal Mint.

Young head of Queen Victoria facing left wearing ribbon (double fillet) in her hair; the hair is collected up into a knot behind; around, the legend VICTORIA DEI GRATIA (Victoria, by the Grace of God). Reverse: St. George on horseback holding a short sword, the horse rearing to right over a fallen dragon which has a broken lance in its chest.
